What the calculator includes

These are estimates from our 44 verified hotel tax rates, compiled on . They cover the listed overnight tax, in its original currency, rather than the full hotel bill. Use the same hotel category, room-only price and liable guests throughout a stay at one property. For changing prices or hotels, calculate each part separately.

Enter adults who are liable for the tax, after checking exemptions with the hotel or linked authority. Recorded night caps are applied for Rome, Venice and Lisbon. Prague 7 stays longer than 60 nights are outside the recorded charge, including their first 60 nights. A cap or exemption absent from the dataset is left unknown. Children are calculated only where the retained source explicitly gives their treatment; otherwise the result is an adult subtotal and the whole-party tax remains unknown.

Venice estimates cover February to December only. Kyoto uses the schedule from March 2026; Tokyo uses the current 2026 system. The dates shown with each result identify the schedule used. Venice (Feb–Dec)

Full adult hotel rates for February through December only, capped at five consecutive nights. Historic centre and mainland are separate tax zones. January uses a different schedule. The overnight tax is separate from the day-visitor access contribution.

Kyoto

Room-only price bands are per person per night, including service charges but excluding meals and consumption tax. Applies to stays from March 2026; earlier 2026 stays had different rates.

Osaka

Prefectural tax applying in Osaka city. Price bands are per person per night, including mandatory service and cleaning charges, excluding meals and taxes. The current taxable bands begin at JPY 5,000; do not use the older schedule further down the source.

Tokyo

Municipality of Lisbon overnight tax; guests aged thirteen and over, subject to exemptions; maximum seven nights per stay. This is not the maritime arrival tax.

Prague 7 only

Prague 7 paid hotel stays by non-exempt adults not registered in the municipality, lasting no more than 60 consecutive days with one provider; arrival day excluded. Rate effective 1 January 2022, current official guidance checked October 2026. Stays longer than 60 days are outside the charge, including their first 60 days.
