The short answer
Choose University Avenue for central district plans, Camden Street for the Garment District near Queen West or the Annex/Bloor edge for Bloor plans. Confirm the guest entrance and exact room separation.
This Toronto hotel area comparison fixes each choice to a guest address. Our fit labels are judgments about trip plans, while the linked owners supply the room and location facts. Use the places you will visit most before choosing a category. Two hotels called Downtown can offer quite different starting streets, and neither label tells you whether a suite has a separate bedroom.
Shangri-La gives the University Avenue choice with a Simcoe Street main entrance and shared-foyer room options. Ace gives the Camden Street base with open versus two-room suites. Kimpton gives the Annex/Bloor comparison with two-queen rooms and a separate living-area suite.

Choose where to stay in Toronto by the days you want to make easy, then the room layout that fits your party. University Avenue, Camden Street near Queen West and the Annex/Bloor edge give three useful comparisons. We use one real guest property in each. The exact entrance and sleeping plan matter as much as the broad Downtown label on a hotel search.
Start with University Avenue for a stay at the business and entertainment district crossroads. Compare the Garment District near Queen West for Ace's Camden Street setting, or the Annex/Bloor edge for Kimpton Saint George. Then choose the real room layout. A shared foyer differs from an open suite. A one-bedroom suite gives another way to share.
University Avenue is our first comparison for plans that cross the business and entertainment districts. Shangri-La Toronto anchors it at number 188. The owner places the main entrance on Simcoe Street between Richmond and Adelaide. Keep that entrance beside the postal address when you plan a pickup or arrive with luggage, rather than stopping at the first University Avenue frontage you see.
Choose this base for the plans you expect to repeat from that crossroads. This is one place to start. It may not fit every Toronto event or meeting. Compare the actual venue with the guest entrance.
A search label can cover a large area. Check the trips you will make once you are there.
For shared stays, the owner's Two Premier Rooms Combined option uses a shared foyer set apart from the main hallway. This is a set room pair. Do not assume any two Premier rooms will form the same pair. Ask for the actual product and how the doors work. Two bookings alone do not secure that shared space.
The One Bedroom Suite offers another layout with a bedroom and separate living room that has a convertible sofa bed. Compare it with the combined rooms by who sleeps where and who needs a closed door. At night, someone may sleep in the living room. That changes how the rest of the group can use it. Match that plan with the beds shown in the booking category.
The owner says photos and tours are samples. The real layout and view can vary. Use the full category and direct room questions if an outlook or exact arrangement matters. A city-facing hotel does not guarantee one identical skyline angle from every bedroom. Confirm the feature that would change your choice before you accept the payment terms.
The Garment District near Queen West gives the Camden Street choice through Ace Hotel Toronto at number 51. The owner uses that district description in its location FAQ. Choose it when those street plans have a clear place in your visit. Use Camden Street as the arrival point rather than treating Queen West as one hotel door or expecting the property to sit directly on every named nearby street.
The room list separates a Medium room from Medium High Floor. Both are described with a king bed and a window bench, while the latter makes the higher position part of its name. Save the full category if that matters. An upper-room photo may not show the view from a Medium room. Check the one on sale.
Double Double gives two double beds in one room. The owner describes these as corner rooms with city and park outlooks, and lists a combined shower and bathtub. Compare that with the sleeping and bathing needs of the party. Two beds can solve a sharing problem without creating two bedrooms or the separate living space of a suite.
Suite names need another check. The One Bed Suite is described with two rooms and a king bed, while the larger Ace Suite is open concept. More floor space does not always mean more privacy. If a closed bedroom door is the reason for upgrading, ask for the actual plan rather than assuming that the largest category must have the most room separation.
The hotel has a rooftop bar and a lobby bar in its current owner description. If your visit centres on those spaces, check operation and any booking needs for your dates. If sleep is the main concern, ask about the chosen room position instead. We do not translate a lively shared-space description into a sound guarantee for every room or the whole surrounding district.
The Annex and Bloor-Yorkville edge gives the Bloor Street comparison through Kimpton Saint George at number 280. The owner places the hotel at that neighbourhood edge. It gives a different start from University Avenue or Camden Street. Choose it for the actual places on your Bloor-side plan, then compare the journey to any Downtown venue you will use more than once.
The owner's family page lists rooms with two queen beds as well as a One Bedroom Suite with a separate living area and sofa bed. These are different ways to share. The two-queen room gives beds in the same main space. The suite changes how daytime living and night-time sleeping can fit together, but the sofa bed still needs a place in the group's plan.
If one person will sleep in the living area, check how that affects the rest of the party. Ask about the door and the route to the bathroom in the exact suite. A separate living area can help, but it should fit the way your guests keep different hours. Compare that layout with a two-room option at another hotel before deciding by size alone.
The owner also offers family equipment rental through its concierge and an on-demand fridge program for storing breast milk. These are request-led services, rather than a reason to assume that every item is waiting in the room. Settle any essential arrangement directly before booking. Keep it separate from the broad amenities icons shown for the property as a whole.
For a visit to a particular museum or campus, use the exact entrance you need beside 280 Bloor Street West. A neighbourhood name can cover more than the short trip you had in mind. Check the actual route and dates rather than accepting one generic near-the-university claim. The right base is the one that supports the journeys and room plan you will really use.
The diagram uses licensed OpenStreetMap hotel locations. Shangri-La’s marker represents the building; the owner gives separate instructions for the Simcoe Street entrance. Use current directions for Union Station exits and the journey from your flight’s airport. Finish at the hotel’s guest entrance rather than the building-centre marker.

These hotel identities and guest addresses were checked in October 2026 against owner information and public Trip.com listings. They show three district and room-layout choices without a live price or review score used to rank them. Confirm the full category in the channel you choose. A suite name, shared foyer or high-floor photo can mean a different product from the general room first shown in search.
Shangri-La Toronto
Best for: A University Avenue base with the guest entrance planned.
Location: 188 University Avenue, Toronto, ON M5H 0A3; main entrance on Simcoe Street
Official evidence: The owner locates the main entrance on Simcoe Street and describes shared-foyer room pairs.
Trade-off: Two separate Premier bookings do not automatically secure the Combined arrangement.
Before booking: Confirm the exact shared-foyer product or separate-living suite plan.
Toronto arrivals: Pearson and Billy Bishop need different plans
Toronto Pearson and Billy Bishop are different airports. For Pearson, UP Express gives a rail link with a platform in Terminal 1. The operator gives separate directions from Terminals 1 and 3. Follow the current Train to City signs and directions for your terminal instead of treating the first airport train platform as the final boarding point for the city service.
At Union, keep the final hotel route beside the airport rail leg. The operator gives separate routes to the UP platform. These start at the rail concourses or the bus terminal, with another from the TTC area. Union is a large arrival area with different parts to navigate. A service to Union does not by itself deliver you to University Avenue, Camden Street or Bloor Street West.
Billy Bishop's airport page describes a different city shuttle. It uses a mainland pickup point at 2 Eireann Quay and a Downtown point at 44 York Street, across from Union. Read the current airport instructions for the island-to-mainland connection and onward shuttle. Do not reuse a Pearson terminal plan just because both airport trips can bring you into the broader Union area.
For Shangri-La, plan the final drop-off or walk to the Simcoe Street main entrance given by the owner. For Ace and Kimpton, use the Camden and Bloor Street addresses respectively. A postal address may not give the place to meet a car. It may not show the best guest door either. Check that final detail with the hotel if luggage or access needs affect the approach.
For the return flight, check the airport code on your ticket before choosing the service. Keep the current departure and boarding point beside the route back from your hotel. We leave fixed rail times and fares to the operator, since hotel transport pages can retain older details. The useful plan begins at your guest entrance and ends at the terminal on your booking.
Toronto room choices for shared foyers and separate living space
For a first visit, compare the Toronto streets that fit your main plans. University Avenue gives one district crossroads, Camden Street gives the Garment District near Queen West, and Bloor Street gives the Annex edge. The best area to stay in Toronto depends on those repeated trips. A room that looks right still needs an address that works for the visit.
For families or friends, decide which doors you need to close at night. A shared foyer for two Premier rooms differs from a One Bedroom Suite with a sofa bed in its living room. Ace's open-concept category differs from its two-room suite too. Choose the actual plan for each sleeper, rather than expecting the broad word suite to guarantee one layout across hotels.
For a view-led stay, read the category and the limits on its photos. Shangri-La notes that views and layouts can vary from representative images. Ace separates Medium from Medium High Floor and describes specific Double Double outlooks. Tie the feature you want to the room sold, then ask if the exact outlook is important enough to change the booking.
For a campus or museum, or event trip, place the exact venue beside the chosen guest address. Toronto labels can be broad, and a street that fits one daily plan may add a connection to another. Ask about the actual hotel approach if access or bags matter. Room comfort and location fit should work together before you compare the payment and cancellation terms.

This is desk research from the sources linked below, with hotel location and feature checks in October 2026. We have not stayed at or tested these hotels. The area choices express our judgment about trip fit. No price, availability, safety grade or service rating is implied.
Shangri-La Toronto: guest entrance: Shangri-La distinguishes its University Avenue postal address from the Simcoe Street main entrance, which matters when arranging a pickup or arriving with luggage.
Shangri-La Toronto: current room layouts: Shangri-La separates a shared-foyer room combination from a one-bedroom suite with living space, so confirm the actual doors and sleeping places rather than rely on sample photos.
Ace Hotel Toronto: frequently asked questions: Ace gives its Camden Street address near Queen West, which helps compare this Garment District stay with the other central and Bloor-area choices.
Ace Toronto: room and suite list: Ace distinguishes higher-floor rooms and a two-room One Bed layout from an open Ace Suite, so the suite label alone does not establish a private bedroom.
Ace Toronto: Double Double: The Double Double description gives two double beds and a corner outlook, with a combined shower and bathtub rather than two separate bathroom facilities.
Kimpton Saint George: district and address: Kimpton gives its Bloor Street West address at the Annex and Yorkville edge, which helps compare the actual location with downtown hotel options.
Kimpton Saint George: family layouts: Kimpton separates two-queen rooms from a one-bedroom suite with sofa space, while family services need requests rather than being assumed in every room.
UP Express: Pearson wayfinding: UP Express places its Pearson platform at Terminal 1 and gives separate Terminal 3 directions, so include the terminal connection for your actual flight.
UP Express: Union wayfinding: UP Express distinguishes the approaches from Union's rail and bus, plus subway areas, which helps plan the final station leg with luggage.
Billy Bishop airport: city shuttle: Billy Bishop's shuttle guide distinguishes the airport-side pickup from the York Street downtown stop, so check the actual last leg to your hotel.

A dated check records what the source said at that point. It does not guarantee that the stay or route is unchanged. If you spot an error, send the page and the correction. We can then recheck the affected hotel or area, or arrival note.
Compare University Avenue, Camden Street near Queen West or the Annex/Bloor edge with the places you plan to visit most. These give different starting streets. Then choose the actual room layout and guest entrance, rather than letting a broad Downtown label settle all three details.
Where is the main entrance to Shangri-La Toronto?
The owner gives the postal address as 188 University Avenue but places the main entrance on Simcoe Street between Richmond and Adelaide. Use the current hotel directions for your final pickup or walk, especially when you will arrive with bags.
Are combined Premier rooms just two separate bookings?
The owner describes Two Premier Rooms Combined as a shared-foyer arrangement apart from the main hallway. Ask for that actual product and confirm how the doors work. Booking two Premier rooms separately does not by itself establish that they form the combined pair.
Is the largest Ace suite the most private room layout?
The owner describes the Ace Suite as open concept, while the One Bed Suite has two rooms. Choose by the floor plan if a closed bedroom door matters. More space can give you room to sit together. It does not always add a separate bedroom.
Can I use the same airport directions for Pearson and Billy Bishop?
No. Pearson UP Express uses a platform in Terminal 1 with separate directions for Terminal 3 arrivals. Billy Bishop has its own mainland connection and city shuttle toward the Union area. Choose by the airport code on your ticket and current operator instructions. Then plan the final leg to your hotel.
Verdict: where to stay in Toronto
Choose where to stay in Toronto through the real street and room plan. Compare University Avenue, the Garment District near Queen West and the Annex/Bloor edge. Confirm the guest door and the type of space your party will share. Then match Pearson or Billy Bishop with the right arrival before you choose the booking terms.
