The short answer

Choose the town centre for Piazza Duomo, the waterfront for a selected sea outlook or a cliffside hotel for time at the property. Check the entrance route and room layout before deciding on a view.

What's covered9

Amalfi areas at a glance

Compare three parts of Amalfi town through each hotel’s room layout and entrance route. Choose town visits, waterfront time or a cliffside hotel stay, then check the journeys and facilities you will use.

Floridiana gives the centre choice, where the lift approach and two-level Junior Suite deserve separate checks. Residence gives the waterfront choice, with courtyard and city, plus sea outlooks. Santa Caterina gives the cliffside choice, where a partial sea view differs from a front view and the beach club has its own season and access conditions.

Choose where to stay in Amalfi by deciding how much of the stay belongs in town and how much belongs at the hotel. The centre around Piazza Duomo, the waterfront and the cliffside outside town offer different ways to spend the day. Steps matter, but a current entrance check matters more than assuming every historic hotel has the same approach.

Choose the town centre for repeated days around Piazza Duomo, the waterfront for a named room outlook near the town-facing shore, or the cliffside for time at the hotel itself. Floridiana has a lift entrance as well as stairs. Residence sells courtyard and sea-view rooms. Santa Caterina adds a seasonal beach club, with access limits that need attention before a swim-led stay.

Where to stay in Amalfi: area choices

Amalfi town centre: Piazza Duomo and Via Brancia

The town centre is our first comparison when most of the visit will happen in Amalfi itself. Use Piazza Duomo as the daily reference, then find the real guest street. Floridiana at Via Brancia 1 gives this choice a checked hotel. The location is the reason to start here; the entrance and room type decide whether to keep it.

This is a town choice rather than a promise to see the whole coast without travel. A day in another town still needs a dated outward and return plan. Choose the centre when being back around the square between outings is valuable. If you expect to spend most of the break at a pool or on a private deck, compare the cliffside hotel on that purpose instead.

The current Floridiana instructions are more useful than a broad warning that old-town hotels have steps. The owner gives two ways in. The lift entrance is reached from Via dei Curiali, next to the DECÒ or La Grande Mela supermarket. A corridor leads to a glass door, where guests use an intercom before taking the lift to reception.

The other entrance has 37 stairs. The hotel itself advises against that approach with bags or reduced mobility. Keep the lift directions with the arrival booking. A driver or porter, or a companion working only from the postal address may otherwise plan for a different entrance. The distinction changes the arrival task without turning the whole town centre into an access guarantee.

The lift entrance and the bedroom route are different checks

A lift to reception answers one stage of the trip. It does not establish the route into every room, the size of a bathroom or whether the full approach works for a wheelchair. Tell the hotel which part of the route matters. A guest who can manage a short step needs a different answer from a guest who requires full level access.

The room details give another reason to ask exactly. Standard rooms are described at reception level, with a courtyard or typical street outlook. Superior text also mentions rooms on an upper floor. Get the floor of the offered room if it matters. The larger room name is not a substitute for knowing which level you will use.

For a guest who wants to rest between town outings, the room position can be as useful as extra space. Courtyard and street outlooks give a basis for a question about the chosen room. They are not sound readings. We have not measured these bedrooms, and we would not turn a quiet-looking courtyard photo into a promise about sleep.

Ask about the hours that concern you. An afternoon rest, an early bedtime and a late return put different demands on a room. Keep the answer tied to the available room and its frontage. There is little value in choosing through a general central-but-quiet slogan if the real room position remains unknown.

Standard, Superior or a suite with internal stairs

Floridiana's Standard and Superior details both include a private bathroom and air conditioning. The Superior page adds double or twin bedding and a small seating area. That is a useful choice for friends who need separate beds, provided the offered setup is confirmed. It does not make the seating area another sleeping place.

For a couple spending much of the day in town, a smaller room can still fit the purpose. Compare the required bed and bathroom before paying for more room. If you expect to sit in the room for part of each day, the seating area may be worth including. Decide through that use rather than treating Superior as an automatic improvement for every guest.

The Junior Suite is the more major change. The owner describes two levels, with stairs to a relaxation area containing a Jacuzzi bath and seating. That is a distinct layout.

The upper space may be part of the appeal. Choose it for that layout. It will not fit someone who expects a larger room on one floor.

Think through when each person would use that upper area. A guest who avoids stairs after a long day may not get much value from it. A family with a young child may need to understand the stair layout before deciding it fits. The word Suite does not answer the location of each key bathroom fixture or add a closed second bedroom by itself.

Arriving with a car does not remove the final walk

Floridiana provides garage directions and asks for vehicle details in connection with the centre's traffic controls. Use those current instructions before entering the restricted area. The hotel links older traffic-window documents too. We have not treated an old PDF's hours as a current consent to drive through the centre on any date.

Ask where the car should go and where the guests should go after parking. Those can be separate destinations. The garage instructions return guests towards the Via dei Curiali lift approach. Keep the luggage plan with that last part. Parking at the property does not mean that the car will stop beside the bedroom or remove every street section.

If someone else is collecting or delivering bags, give them the planned entrance. If a member of the party needs the lift, do not split the group without a way to meet at reception. These are small arrival choices, but they can make the difference between using the entrance you planned and finding the stair entrance with full cases.

Choose this part of Amalfi for town days and a room whose route you understand. The current lift instructions make Floridiana worth assessing for more than guests happy with the old stair approach. The lift solves one stage of arrival. The chosen floor and any levels within the room still need their own check.

The town waterfront: Hotel Residence side

The waterfront choice puts the town-facing shore and the room outlook closer to the centre of the decision. Our anchor is Hotel Residence Amalfi at Via delle Repubbliche Marinare 9. It is a distinct hotel from Floridiana, even though their points sit close together on the diagram. A similar central location can still buy a quite different room experience.

Choose this base when you want the waterfront setting to be part of the stay rather than just the point where a boat arrives. It may also enter the shortlist for repeated port departures. In that case, identify the real ferry service and boarding point first. A hotel near the waterfront is not proof that every sailing uses the same pier or a suitable approach.

The room outlook is the key purchase here. Residence offers several products with sea or town, or a courtyard views. Its broad room-list introduction uses sea-or-square wording, but the detailed Standard Interior page gives an inner-courtyard outlook. Use that more exact product details when assessing the offer. The waterfront address alone does not make the window face the water.

The Interior name does not mean a room with no outside space. The owner describes a balcony or small terrace over the courtyard. That can fit a guest who wants a place outside but does not need a sea outlook. Decide whether the important feature is being outdoors, looking at the sea or seeing the town. Those are different reasons to select a room.

Front sea view, side sea view or the town

Premium Deluxe Sea View is described with a front or side sea outlook. If a straight-on view is the point of the booking, ask how the real offered room is classified. A side view may be entirely suitable for a guest who mainly wants light and an outside place to sit. It should still be chosen knowingly rather than inferred from the hotel's main photo.

The bell-tower product looks towards the cathedral tower and historic setting. The city product has a town outlook. These are positive reasons for a different choice, not weaker versions of a sea room in every case. A guest drawn to the square-side architecture may prefer that scene. The useful comparison is between the outlooks you would enjoy each day.

Do not carry the view from one room title into another title in a short offer list. Merchants may shorten labels or translate them. Retain the full room name and confirm the outlook if the wording has become vague. A broad Deluxe name is not enough to decide whether the room faces the courtyard or town, or the sea.

If sitting on the balcony is central to the visit, ask about the balcony of the chosen room as well. The presence of an outside area does not establish its shape or furniture. We have not inspected these balconies. A question about how you intend to use the space will get a more useful answer than asking only whether the hotel has balconies.

Two guests, twins and a third sleeping place

The Standard Interior detail page states a two-guest limit. Its prose offers a double or twins, while the summary line names a queen bed. If separate beds decide the stay, have the real setup confirmed. The discrepancy does not require rejecting the hotel; it requires keeping the desired beds clear instead of assuming either short line settles the booking.

Standard and Superior details also use double-or-twin wording. They distinguish a bath or shower rather than guaranteeing that both are present in every bathroom. If stepping into a bath would be difficult, ask for the exact bathroom plan. The room can have the right guest count and view while still being wrong for the guest's daily use.

The list includes a Triple Superior, but the overview alone does not explain the third sleeping place well enough to assume three main beds. Ask how the third guest sleeps. A double or twin main setup can coexist with an extra bed or another solution. Keep the full party and the real room type in the same request.

For three friends, separate beds may be more important than the extra floor area of a larger double. For parents with a child, the third bed and bathroom may matter more than a tower view. Start with where each person sleeps. Only then compare the view categories that remain suitable. This avoids choosing a striking outlook attached to the wrong sleeping plan.

Port plans and a waterfront room are separate benefits

A waterfront stay can make sense even with no ferry outings. You might simply want to return to the chosen room outlook after time in town. Likewise, a guest planning several sailings might prefer a room with no sea view. Distinguish the value of the location from the value of the window before comparing the total offer.

For port departures, use the operator's current instructions and the ticketed route. Retain a route from reception to the real departure point, including any baggage task. Our diagram marks the hotel location only. It does not draw a line to a quay or establish that the walk is level, especially for a guest using a mobility aid.

The return trip deserves the same care. A convenient outward departure does not guarantee a late sailing back. If the day's service changes, the room's waterfront setting remains the same, but the travel plan may need a road alternative. Do not pay for a location benefit that exists only under a timetable you have not checked for the travel date.

For sleep, the owner uses soundproofing wording in room details. We report the room products without turning that claim into a tested sound score. Ask about the chosen room frontage if it matters to you. A sea or town outlook tells you what lies beyond the window; it does not tell you every sound you may hear through the night.

Choose Residence for the waterfront base and the room product you can name exactly. The courtyard option can be sensible without a sea view, and a tower view can be a deliberate preference. If the sea itself decides the purchase, settle front versus side outlook. Keep the beds and bathroom with that choice so the view remains part of a room that works.

Cliffside outside the centre: Santa Caterina

The cliffside outside the centre is the choice to compare when the hotel itself is a large part of the trip. Santa Caterina, at S.S. Amalfitana 9, anchors this option. The owner describes its sea and garden setting outside the town centre. Choose it for time you intend to spend there, then make a workable plan for the town outings you still want.

This is a different use of Amalfi from using a central room as a place to sleep between departures. If most days will begin with leaving the hotel and end only after dinner elsewhere, decide how much of the hotel setting you will use. A cliffside room can be appealing while adding little value to a visit spent away from the property.

For a break with time left open, the calculation changes. The outlook and on-site facilities can become the reason for choosing the stay. Put those planned hours into the comparison before choosing through a headline room price. A central room and a hotel-led break can involve different purchases even when both listings say Amalfi.

The cliffside position does not settle how you will reach the centre on foot. We have not measured or assessed that route. Ask for the current guest route and any arranged transport you intend to use. A map point can show the hotel's relative position; it cannot establish the pavement or slope, nor entrance conditions on the way.

The sea view still needs a room category

Santa Caterina separates Partial Sea View and Executive Partial Sea View from Front Sea View and Front Upper Floor Sea View. Keep those distinctions visible in the room offer. A hotel overlooking the sea can sell different window directions and floors. The general setting is not enough to treat every bedroom outlook as the same product.

If a front view is the reason for the trip, compare a category that states it. If partial sea view is sufficient, it can leave a different set of room options. We do not assign a fixed price premium to the categories. The useful question is whether the view you expect is really included in the product being sold for your dates.

Suites add their own layouts and outside spaces. A suite name alone does not establish a closed second bedroom, a chosen guest capacity or a room with no internal steps. If two people need different sleeping hours, ask about the plan rather than assuming a living area has a door. The room should support the way the party will spend time indoors.

The owner lists a selection of connecting rooms for family privacy. That is a useful option to investigate when closed sleeping spaces matter. It is not a promise that any two booked rooms connect. Request the real connecting pair, with the whole party included, and get confirmation before treating the link as part of the stay.

Beach-club season and the meaning of sea access

The current beach-club page describes a guest-only facility with sea access and a saltwater pool. It publishes a season from mid-April to October. Exact dates and operation for the planned visit still need confirmation. A broad month range is not a guarantee that every facility will be operating on every day of that month.

The distinction is especially important for a visit near the start or end of the stated period. If swimming is the main purpose, settle the real pool and deck plan before choosing the room. The hotel may still fit a stay based on its view when swimming is unavailable. That is a different choice from booking it on the assumption of a daily swim.

Sea access and a beach-club deck also differ from assuming a wide sandy beach at the room. Read the facility details for the experience you want. We do not turn a beach symbol into a promise about sand, a lifeguard or sea conditions. If a chosen swimming plan is key, ask about it directly rather than relying on the word Beach in the facility name.

Keep access to the water separate from the room's sea view. A guest may enjoy the outlook without using the club, while another guest may spend most daylight hours by the pool. Those uses can justify different room choices. The view should not substitute for a facility check, and the pool should not substitute for choosing the sleeping layout.

Owner access limits need a complete answer

The owner says the deck, including the pool, is not fully accessible, although staff help is offered. That wording deserves a clear place in the decision. Assistance can mean different things for different guests.

Describe the need. Ask what help or equipment is available. Ask about the route too. A broad offer of help does not prove that the guest can use the pool.

The hotel’s room page warns that its accessible rooms are not fully compliant and mentions planned renovation. Confirm the current entrance and bedroom, plus bathroom layout directly before booking. A planned improvement does not tell you what will be available for your dates.

Combine the hotel entrance and bedroom, plus the deck questions. A suitable room route would not by itself resolve the pool deck, and the offered deck help would not resolve an unsuitable bathroom. A guest may also be able to use some parts of the hotel while choosing to avoid others. The answer should describe that real stay rather than reduce the whole property to one access icon.

For a companion or family member helping with access, confirm who provides which help. Do not plan on a member of the party carrying out a task they cannot safely manage. A hotel-led break is most useful when the people travelling know how they will use the property. The appealing view does not remove the need for that useful agreement.

Choose Santa Caterina when its cliffside setting and planned hotel time earn their place in the visit. Select the real view category, then check the season and the full access needs. If the facilities cannot fit the party on the real dates, compare the central or waterfront base again. The right choice is the stay you can use, with an arrival and return to town that work.

Getting to Amalfi, then reaching the right hotel entrance

Plan arrival to Amalfi in stages. First choose a dated service or an arranged road transfer into town. Then plan from that arrival point to the real guest entrance.

The second stage can change the hotel choice, especially with cases or steps. A ferry trip to Amalfi ends at the port. You still need a route to the hotel door. A car booked to the town name can leave the final stop vague.

Start with the place you will really be before Amalfi. An airport arrival, a train into Salerno and a stay elsewhere on the coast lead to different plans. Use the real port or road pickup point, with the date and arrival hour. We do not supply a universal airport-to-hotel time, since the connected services and final guest street need their own itinerary.

Salerno and a dated ferry connection

Floridiana's directions describe a route through Salerno, with a ferry from the Piazza della Concordia side. Treat the hotel directions as a route idea, then check the current ferry operator for the real date. Keep the rail arrival and ferry boarding point distinct. A ticket to Salerno station is not a ticket to Amalfi, and a port name does not replace the exact departure point.

Allow the connection to fit the people and bags travelling. A rail arrival followed by a boat can be attractive, but it adds a change of mode. Compare that change with an arranged road journey if someone needs help or the arrival is late. We have not assessed the full station-to-pier route for full level access, so do not infer it from the short distance on a map.

Travelmar's current website uses an all-year-service banner. That is useful context about the operator, but it does not establish the exact route and departure you need. Search the real port pair and date. Save the return separately if you are planning an outing rather than a one-way arrival. A service advertised in general can still have a different pattern on the planned day.

Use the operator's current departure details rather than an old timetable image saved in a hotel article. A screenshot can omit the date range or later changes. Keep the current service page accessible for the day of travel. If the boat is part of a connection from a train or flight, leave the real transfer task visible instead of comparing only the scheduled sailing time.

Baggage and boarding on the ferry

Travelmar's conditions distinguish included small baggage from excess luggage. Check the current rules for the cases you will bring. Passengers load and keep their own bags.

The fare alone does not settle the journey. If you cannot handle a case, ask about help before choosing the ferry. Ask the operator about the help needed before choosing the boat as the arrival plan.

Keep bags within reach and out of the spaces the operator needs clear. If you have a stroller or bulky equipment, ask how it is carried. Do not assume it follows the same rule as a small day bag. The route may work well for one person travelling light and need another plan for a family with several cases.

Read the ticket's boarding instructions and reporting time. The current operator pages give instructions that depend on the ticket and departure. We do not compress those into a universal rule for every ferry company or port. A booking confirmation should be read as a travel document, with the correct boarding location and check-in task kept beside the sailing.

For a return outing, know how the return is confirmed. Do not assume a general round-trip ticket reserves any sailing you later prefer. If you leave the choice open, check the operator's current terms about reserving the return. The rooms decision should not rely on a final boat home that has not really been selected or confirmed.

Service changes and the last trip back

The transport conditions allow service or destination changes in stated circumstances. Look at the live operator details before leaving. If the journey is critical to a flight or train, compare an alternative plan before committing to a tight connection. We do not promise that a hotel near the port will protect a connection when the sailing itself changes.

Separate the refund process from the travel problem. A ticket refund, where the terms provide one, does not by itself create a replacement ride or cover every onward cost. Read the real current conditions for the purchase. For the hotel choice, retain a useful route to reception if the planned arrival changes to a road journey.

The same applies to day trips from Amalfi. Start with the return you need, then select the outward trip. A central hotel can make the town end easier while leaving the other port or attraction leg not settled. Avoid filling the day on the assumption that the last return will always be available at the moment you decide to leave.

Arriving by road and choosing the right destination

An arranged road transfer needs the full property name and the current meeting point. Give the provider the chosen hotel's address, with the number. For Santa Caterina, the owner uses S.S. Amalfitana 9 while the matched merchant also uses Via Mauro Comite 9. Retain the real property contact and directions so that a street-label variation does not become a different destination.

For Floridiana, distinguish the car garage from the lift entrance. The owner gives exact garage instructions and traffic-control steps. Obtain the current version before the journey. An old entry-window PDF should not become consent to drive through a restricted area at any hour. A guest may need to supply vehicle details and follow the hotel's arrival plan.

For Residence, save the full Repubbliche Marinare address and ask about the planned guest entrance. A generic pin on the waterfront is less useful than the hotel's own instructions if the driver must set guests down elsewhere. Confirm the bags and any help needed at that point. A shore-facing building does not make every possible drop-off its entrance.

If someone else is driving, clarify whether the service ends at a drop-off point or includes help to reception. Get the full charge for the service you intend to buy. A hotel offering to arrange a transfer does not establish that it is included in the room. Compare the real offer without adding an assumed free ride.

The first and last day can need different routes

An afternoon ferry arrival and an early departure by road can both be part of the same stay. Plan them separately. A good outward route does not prove a suitable service before an early flight home. If the departure time is fixed, choose the return transport before letting a preferred room view settle the hotel.

For a late arrival, tell the hotel when and how you expect to reach it. At Floridiana the lift entrance uses an intercom; ask how that will work at the planned hour. At any property, the arrival procedure needs its own confirmation if the trip changes. The room booking and the reception plan should describe the same arrival.

For an early arrival before the bedroom is ready, ask about the luggage plan. A larger suite does not create an early check-in promise, and a waterfront location does not establish free storage. Decide where the group will wait or spend time while keeping the bags settled. That first-day plan may matter more than an upgrade you will use only after dinner.

From the arrival point to the room

Retain the final route in a form the party can use without searching again. At Floridiana that includes the Via dei Curiali lift instructions and the separate stair entrance to avoid if it is unsuitable. At the cliffside hotel it includes the current reception approach and any help agreed. A postal address is necessary, but it may not be the whole instruction.

If access affects the choice, work from the guest's real needs rather than an assumed district difficulty. The town centre includes a checked lift approach, while the cliffside property publishes limits for its deck and rooms. Neither a central location nor a resort setting settles the full route. Match the entrance and bedroom, plus the planned facilities to the real person travelling.

Amalfi for a first visit, a family trip or a hotel-led break

For a first visit, begin with how you expect to spend a full day in Amalfi. If you want to leave the room often and return around Piazza Duomo, compare the centre first. If the room's outlook is part of the purpose, compare the waterfront products. If you want long periods at the hotel, assess the cliffside setting with its current facility conditions.

There is no need to give every first-time visitor the same base. One party may want several boat outings, while another wants a town break with time to rest. A third may be choosing a celebration stay where the room and deck are central. The useful recommendation follows those plans, rather than a single ranking that ignores how the people travelling will use the hotel.

Amalfi town is not the whole Amalfi Coast

Search results often use Amalfi to mean both the town and the wider coast. This guide compares stays in and beside Amalfi town. A hotel in another town can be a valid choice, but it changes the daily base. Do not compare listings only by the coastal destination label if one is in the centre and another requires a separate journey to reach it.

If you already know that the stay should be in Amalfi town, keep the real address with every shortlist entry. The hotel name and map point help check that scope. If you are still choosing among coastal towns, decide that question before paying for a room here. A good room in the wrong daily base is harder to fix than a small difference in room size.

The centre and waterfront choices in this guide can look very close on a map. That does not make their room purchases identical. Floridiana's internal levels and lift entrance create a different set of questions from Residence's courtyard and sea-view products. Choose through those real differences, rather than trying to turn a small gap between pins into an invented walking-time advantage.

A short stay with one main purpose

For a short town visit, be careful about adding a complex arrival for a feature you will scarcely use. If you arrive after dinner and leave early, a balcony may contribute little compared with a reliable entrance and the right beds. If you have a full afternoon planned at the hotel, the outlook can carry more weight. Assess the hours you really have.

For a stay built around one booked outing, plan that departure and return first. Then compare a central or waterfront room on the rest of the visit. The hotel does not need to be the closest possible pin if another choice fits the sleeping plan much better. The worthwhile location benefit is the one you will use without creating a problem elsewhere.

For a celebration, make the desired feature explicit. It may be a front sea view or a chosen outside space, rather than simply a suite. Keep that feature in the room confirmation. A higher category can add area or a different layout while missing the outlook that made you choose the property in the first place.

Couples choosing a room to spend time in

At Residence, decide whether the sea or tower, or the courtyard is the outlook you want. A courtyard balcony can be enough for a couple who mainly wants an outside pause between town outings. A front sea view may be key for another couple planning time at the room. Those are different uses, so compare the real product rather than assuming the sea label always wins.

At Floridiana, the Junior Suite's two levels can be an attraction if you want its upper relaxation area. If you simply need a place to sit without internal stairs, ask about the Superior layout. More floor area spread over levels can be less useful than a smaller single-level room. The better room is the one whose plan you will enjoy using.

At Santa Caterina, the amount of hotel time should justify the cliffside choice. A partial sea view may fit a stay focused on shared hotel spaces, while a front view can matter more if the bedroom outlook is central. We do not attach a fixed value to either. Decide how much of the visit depends on that chosen room feature.

Families: beds and levels before labels

For a family, list where each person sleeps before comparing views. A room for two does not acquire space for a child because it has a seating area. Residence's Standard Interior has a stated two-guest limit. If a child or third adult is travelling, compare a product that really accepts the party and explains the extra sleeping place.

The Triple Superior label at Residence needs the third bed clarified. Ask whether it is a main bed or an added sleeping place and whether the real ages fit the room. Three people can need quite different plans. A parent with a small child and three adult friends should not assume the same triple product answers both groups equally well.

At Floridiana, consider the internal stairs in Junior Suite before the bath or extra area. Ask about how the stair section is arranged if a young child is travelling. Keep key night-time needs in the same question. A room can appear spacious in a photo while the route between its levels changes the way a parent needs to use it.

For older children or adults wanting privacy, Santa Caterina's connecting-room selection can be worth investigating. Have the connecting pair confirmed rather than booking any two rooms. Also ask about the beds and bathrooms in each part. A connecting door resolves one privacy question but does not replace the rest of the sleeping plan.

Friends who need separate main beds

Twins should be an agreed setup rather than a hope based on a general hotel details. Floridiana's Superior page uses double-or-twin wording. Residence offers similar wording in several products, with a summary discrepancy on Standard Interior. Give the chosen room name and ask for the separate beds you need. Keep the reply with the booking.

Do not confuse a sofa or seating area with another main bed. If one person will use an added sleeping place, decide whether that is acceptable before choosing a larger room. A party may prefer two simpler rooms to a suite whose floor plan does not provide the privacy or main beds expected. Compare the real sleeping conditions rather than only the total guest count.

For friends with different plans during the day, the base should work for both. A guest returning to the hotel while another stays in town needs an own route they can use. The cliffside setting can be appealing, but it should not leave one person relying on an unconfirmed ride. A central base may be more useful when the group will split up often.

Swimming as a reason for the stay

If a pool is the deciding feature, use Santa Caterina's stated beach-club season and confirm the travel dates. A mid-April to October details is a season, not a daily opening guarantee. Near the edges, ask for the real facility plan. Do not let a room photo make the pool seem available on a date the hotel has not confirmed.

If access is needed, the deck and pool limit is a separate decision from the presence of a pool. The owner offers staff help while saying the area is not fully accessible. Describe the guest's needs and ask whether that help fits. A pool that exists can still be the wrong facility for the person who wants to use it.

If a swim is optional, assess whether the cliffside hotel remains the preferred stay without it. The setting and room view may still justify the choice. If the answer is no, the facility status should be settled before the room. That keeps the purchase tied to the experience you really intend to have rather than a feature that may be unavailable.

Steps, fatigue and a stay that works each day

Think about the repeated trip through the hotel, not only arrival with the cases. A guest may manage steps once but find them tiring after every outing. A lift approach can make a town-centre hotel more useful, while internal suite stairs can reintroduce a task the guest wanted to avoid. Ask about the room route as well as the main entrance.

Do the same for facilities. If the beach club is a daily plan, its route matters each day. A view enjoyed from a room may be a better fit for one guest than an outing to a deck requiring help. The right answer can be to use some parts of a property and skip others, provided the room and price are being chosen on that basis.

Keep an access request concrete. State whether stairs are possible, what kind of shower is needed and whether help is acceptable. General reassurance can leave those points not settled. At Santa Caterina, ask about current conditions rather than assuming a planned renovation is complete. At Floridiana, retain the named lift entrance and the real room floor.

Comparing the total stay without invented price tiers

Compare the same dates and party, with the real sleeping setup. A courtyard room at Residence is a different product from its front sea-view offer. Floridiana's two-level suite is different from its Standard. Santa Caterina's connected rooms differ from a single double. A lower headline number may simply describe a purchase that does not meet the needs you started with.

Read the refund terms and any breakfast inclusion alongside the room. Then add the transport and parking services you intend to use. We do not publish fixed hotel prices or call an entire part of Amalfi the cheapest. The total depends on the real offer and the services needed for the visit, including whether the arrival plan changes the cost of staying there.

Finish the shortlist with one clear reason for each choice. Floridiana can stay on it for town days and the planned lift route. Residence can stay for a selected waterfront room outlook. Santa Caterina can stay for hotel time with facilities that fit the dates and guest. If the key room or access fact remains not settled, settle that before allowing an attractive view to make the decision.

Amalfi sources, check dates and corrections

This is desk research from the sources linked below, with hotel location and feature checks in October 2026. We have not stayed at or tested these hotels. The area choices express our judgment about trip fit. No price, availability, safety grade or service rating is implied.

A dated check records what the source said at that point. It does not guarantee that the stay or route is unchanged. If you spot an error, send the page and the correction. We can then recheck the affected hotel or area, or arrival note.

FAQ: choosing a base in Amalfi

Where should I stay in Amalfi for a first visit?

Choose the centre around Piazza Duomo when town days lead the stay. Compare the waterfront when the room outlook matters, or the cliffside when you plan time at the hotel. These are Amalfi town choices. The wider Amalfi Coast includes other towns and needs its own base and travel comparison.

Does Floridiana require climbing all the entrance stairs?

Its current owner directions give two entrances. One uses a lift from Via dei Curiali, with an intercom at the glass door. The separate historic entrance has 37 stairs. Save the correct approach and confirm the chosen room route; a lift to reception does not answer every internal level or bathroom need.

Is every Residence room a sea-view room?

No. The Standard Interior detail page gives an inner-courtyard outlook. City and bell-tower categories also differ from the sea products. Premium Deluxe Sea View can have a front or side sea outlook. Keep the exact product with the offer if looking at the sea from the room decides the stay.

Does Santa Caterina have a year-round accessible beach club?

The owner publishes a mid-April to October beach-club season, with exact dates to confirm. It also states that the deck, including the pool, is not fully accessible, although staff help is offered. That is not an own access guarantee. Ask whether the full route and help fit the real guest.

Can I assume there will be a ferry for my Amalfi arrival?

Use the operator timetable for the real departure port and date. A broad all-year-service banner does not guarantee the sailing you need. Check the return too and retain a workable alternative if the service changes. The ferry trip ends at the port, with a separate route to the chosen hotel entrance.

Is Floridiana Junior Suite a single-level larger bedroom?

The owner describes two levels. Stairs lead from the sleeping area to the relaxation area with Jacuzzi bath and seating. Choose that layout deliberately. If internal stairs are a concern, compare the exact Standard or Superior route instead and confirm the room floor, rather than assuming a suite removes access constraints.

Verdict: where to stay in Amalfi

Choose where to stay in Amalfi through the part of the visit you want to repeat. The centre fits Piazza Duomo days, the waterfront puts the chosen room outlook first and the cliffside makes time at the hotel a larger part of the plan. Settle the lift or internal stairs before the room size. Keep the named view and seasonal facilities with the offer. Then plan the arrival to the hotel’s guest entrance.
